Climate Change Concerns of Saudi Arabian Farmers: The Drivers and Their Role in Perceived Capacity Building Needs for Adaptation

Climate change is a serious threat to the sustainability of global agriculture and food supply that necessitates taking appropriate action for building resilient production systems preserving rural economies. In this regard, farmers’ beliefs concerns about effects climate on may influence their adoption adaptation mitigation practices address emerging issue. This work was undertaken evaluate level concern in Jazan province Saudi Arabia. The study also explored role various socioeconomic indicators shaping highlights capacity-building initiatives can be applied at community effective adaptation. Ordered logistic regression used relationship between need tackle change. Results indicated insect infestation top concern, followed by higher crop-diseases incidence drought. Regression analysis revealed income major factor reduces crop disease while increases Credit access information availability have mixed impact level. Capacity-building deemed necessary included establishing frequent contacts with extension personnel, timely warnings droughts other natural hazards, training farmers workers, easy credit facilities, improvement infrastructure creation awareness specific stimulus.
